Gold components are used in Epitaxy reactors due to low emissivity and reflective properties as well as corrosion resistance. Degraded, or low quality, gold can reduce emissivity and cause thermal anomalies. Many fabs must continually augment their recipes directly correlated to gold degradation.
Additionally, new, stricter requirements of Epitaxy films require greater temperature control and focus.
